I stumbled on the term “appendixless son” in your posting. I thought I coined the term! I left home for college in 1963. As luck would have it, I became appendixless just before Thanksgiving. My parents were overseas, and it wasn’t practical for either of them to visit me at the time. It was just as well. I had friends and other relatives in the area. When I went home for the Christmas holidays, just on the spur of the moment I greeted my mother with the words “Remember me? I’m your appendixless son!” We all had a little laugh at that.
